Junior cricket training
Just a quick reminder that Junior cricket training has officially finished for the season but there will be training for the under 8 – under 14 age groups as usual for those who are still around.
WGCC features and wins at Sussex Grassroots Cricket Awards presented at the County Ground on Sun 14th August
WGCC was well represented for the Sussex Grassroots Awards with 3 extremely worthy nominations for different categories as follows :
Sarah Meurer – Inspire to Play (for so successfully organising and encouraging a new audience of cricket players with the development of the girls and women sections)
Alen Lang – Coach of the Year (for enthusing an enormous number of U5s, U6s and U7s (a record 75 registrations in 2022) to have fun and enjoy cricket which he has done for the last 8 years)
Peter Klein – Outstanding Contribution to Coaching (Peter has been exceptional in coaching the juniors over the last 15 years at all age groups including more recently the women’s team)
It was fantastic to see the massive individual contributions by Sarah, Alen and Peter to WGCC being recognised by Sussex Cricket and all were more than deserving of winning their categories. The awards were presented by Rob Andrew (CEO of Sussex Cricket) during the interval of the Sussex vs Surrey 50 over match at the County Ground in Hove on Sunday 14th August with a few other members of the Club present.
As the drum rolled for the winner of the first category it was delightful to hear Alen’s name being read out as winner of the Coach of the Year award
Many congratulations to Alen for this great achievement and for the countless hours you have put in to help and encourage countless young players to engage with and enjoy the game of cricket. Many thanks must also go to his able assistants, including his daughter Ella, who help out every week with the large group of young players.
Without the outstanding individual contributions such as those shown by Sarah, Alen and Peter and all the other volunteers who put so much time and effort into suppporting WGCC and the players it simply would not be the same thriving, fun and successful Club that it is today.
End of Season awards – a date for your diary
Friday 30th Sept is our end of season Dinner and Awards evening featuring the one and only DJ PTer Mattock – not to be missed…
Player songs
Our music maestro Peter Mattock has compiled a list of songs for a number of our players. The tune featured was top of the music charts when that particular player was born. How prophetic was the tune for the player ? Click on the name below to reveal the song for the player
Team selections
Our First X1 and Second X1 are both in action this weekend – please click here for the team selections. Because of the condition of the outfield at Wisborough Green, the First X1 will be playing their ‘home’ game at Warnham Cricket Club .
