Ray has now posted or hand delivered the prize winning cheques Ray also presented the Club with a cheque for £2450 being this year’s share of the proceeds. Ray reported that there were now 196 members- just 4 short of his target of 200 tickets. However he already knew that this number would fall to 192 at renewal following the death recently of a member with 4 tickets and therefore he would very much like to hear from players and supporters who would like to join the Century Club and hopefully increase the membership to 200 Ray can be contacted on either 01403 700 796 or by email at ray.greatorex@outlook.com Alternatively an application form can be downloaded from the Cricket Club’s website Thanks to all who take part in the Century Club and to Ray for all his efforts.   Under 11/12 players vs parents match  Lancashire vs Yorkshire, England vs Australia, Parents vs Players. Emotive, passionate and always keenly contested. Sunday did not disappoint. Jonathan Whittle skippered the parents team. He’d seen the (c) by his name on the team sheet but thought it stood for something completely different so was a little surprised with the responsibility of leading such a finely tuned bunch of athletes. Zach captained the players and won the toss. Having seen the parents batting line up, he had no hesitation in putting them in. David Williams and Tim March strode to the crease in confident fashion, well as confident as you can with a broken leg, DVT and gout. Williams, spritely considering his advanced years, batted superbly with five fours and a six, some superbly judged singles and hogging of the strike, scored 25 whilst March scored 5 off just three deliveries. Just the start that Whittle had demanded, 234 with no outs, text book. Phoebe and Sam were tight but no match for their elders. Nathan Palmer and Noah Butcher-Collier enter the fray, Noah, an unexpected arrival slotted nicely into the parent side due to sick note Bensons late drop out. We were all expecting great things from the powerhouse of the team and Palmer did not disappoint…. the opposition. Two singles and two outs didn’t advance the score much and with Noah getting a ripper from Hugo, before the parents could blink, they were 10 runs worse off than before these two arrived at the crease. Archie Benson’s career best figures of 2 overs, 2 for 3 were so good, they were on social media before the end of the game! Captain Courageous with Carolyn in tow settled the innings a little. Some fluent leg glances from Whittle and some sledging of her son from Carolyn pushed the parent’s score to 227. Unfortunately, our wicket count continued to increase with Zach particularly happy with his clean bowling of his Dad. By this point, the players were starting to become more confident, 227 after 12 overs is not the sort of thing the parents had in mind and neither was the following episode. Ramsey, drafted in from the u10s to strengthen our side did not deliver. Resplendent in International kit, initial impressions were good. We should note that it was international kit for that powerhouse of cricket that is Scotland..the writing was on the shirt. Hamish got him a couple of times and Felix once. He then ran poor old Alex out, so happy was he to find the middle of his bat. Alex Hazlewood, in for his father who was away on important overseas business, was steady and somehow managed to keep Colin together long enough to make sure we were only 1 run less then when they started. 226 after 16 overs, we were in deep trouble. The last pair of Dancaster and Bonney had the weight of expectation on their shoulders. Could they get the parents beyond 250 and create a score to defend? Bonney, before he got to the wicket was sledged by the umpire and team mate, ” You look village in that cap” which was slightly better than “You have more misses then Henry Viii” (That’s what private education gets you and could only happen on Collards!) was given out immediately by the same umpire for hitting the ball into his pads. Andy scored 7 in three balls to undo the damage inflicted by Bonney’s pads and then the coach found the timing and touch much missed from the square for the last eighteen years. After a particularly fine cover drive for four, Bonney turned to his bat and said “I’ve missed you, it’s like we have never been apart old friend” to which the bat replied “True but you are four stone heavier and the bowler is eleven” Counting himself a little unlucky to receive sledging from his own bat, Bonney slotted another drive for four and held the finish. “Great technique” said his batting partner, “Cramp” came the reply. 271 all out was a fair reflection on some tight bowling and fielding and some indifferent batting. Lunch was a simple affair, too early for the Wisborough set as most had prior lunch arrangements. The coach took the opportunity to thank all the parents for their support, Jonathan for keeping him sane on Fridays, Andy for scoring all the matches and Hannah for administrating. He also gave out a couple of awards that he always finds difficult to do. A different approach this year was to give Coaches Cup for consistent quality with both bat and ball to James King who thankfully couldn’t make the parents match and then award the bowling, batting and fielding cups to specific events throughout the year. Huxley for his remarkable double wicket maiden last over to gain a tie against Horsham Trinity, Tom Burchell for his unbeaten 30 against Lingfield and Joe Bonney for his catch against Southwater. Archie Benson scooped the most improved player, a decision confirmed by his bowling in this match. Back to the cricket. Phoebe and Sam opened the batting and apart from a wicket for David, the pair showed the makers name and moved to 208 after four overs. Hugo and Archie survived the onslaught that was Palmer’s overs, not sure the wicket keeper did. Nathan picked up a wicket but Hugo and Archie pushed the score along to 228. Master Blaster Burchell partnered by the whippet that is skipper Zach were a potent pair. Tom’s hitting and Zach’s running put on 41 runs and took the game away from the parents, within 3 runs of a victory with eight overs left to bowl. Jonathan and Carolyn did a good job to contain these two but losing the match was becoming a reality. That is before Colin Ramsey returned to the crease a new man. His dad had given him a stern talking to at the interval and Colin delivered two wickets and this, coupled with one from Alex meant that Felix and Hamish lost 3 runs on the total. In fact, so incensed with his son’s performance, Ramsey Senior decided to umpire to keep him focussed. It did the trick, despite a great four and a couple of quick singles from Hamish. 266, 6 needed from four overs. Andy D tried a Huxley and only went for 2 runs. Bonney only went for 1. Andy struck with a wicket in the penultimate over but a lofted drive for 2 from Joe meant they needed 3 off the last over. Bonney bowled two dot balls, one of them rapping Harry on the gloves but, stoically, Harry stood and whipped Bonney through mid wicket for four. Like many times in his past, Bonney demonstrated his ability to grasp defeat from the jaws of victory and bowled a wide. Try as he might, the coach could not dislodge Harry and the players won by 2, nuf said. A great game played in great spirit, the parents are counting down the days before they can exact their revenge. Thanks to Mr Ramsey Senior for umpiring, Hannah and Ness for scoring and have a great summer.   Under 9’s  Congratulations to the under 9’s who finished their league games in Div 1 having won the league and winning all 7 of their games.     If there is anything we should know – you know where to find us #upTheGreen Cheers Wizzy   Match reports Seconds vs Portslade The sun had finally come out for more than 1 consecutive day and the Green was looking beautiful. I have learnt the hard way in the past, but now my rule is the same, if it is hot and the wicket is good, always bat first. We won the toss and elected to bat with the aim of a score past 220-230. Frank ‘the Tank’ Vickery (23) and Hughie Ragg (12) opened the batting and whilst we got off to a slow start it was a solid one, before we lost Hughie to a mis judged leave. In came Stuart Davey with the promise of a big score. He played some great shots and Frank played with stubborn defence. Frank was then caught and in came James Sadler. Sadler was in no mood to prod the ordinary attack, and hit 4,6,4,1 and then was caught by the only fielder on the leg side. This brought Tarni Dixon to the crease, fresh from his innings last August. Tarni set about the bowling with finesse and stroked his way to a gracious 92. Davey fell to an LBW shout and DJ (17) and Tim McMath (17) supported Tarni well. The score rattled on and we past 200. Tarni then was well caught and Nick Klein made a late summer appearance. We managed to keep Nick calm and use up most of the overs before unleashing some lusty blows. Hugo, Jack Dixon and Jacob Ball all supported Nicks shots well. Nick finishing on 43 Not Out, and we amassed 273 for 9. Portslade trudged off, hot, tired and dis spirited, (just how we like seeing the opposition!). After a Cricks Tea, we braved the heat and aimed to bowl Portslade out. We opened with the pace and bounce of Nick Klein and the style and rhythm of Hugo March. It was not long before Hugo was in the wickets, the opener perishing from a good catch by Jacob Ball. Nick Klein then removed the other openers middle stump and we were on our way. Hugo then took 2 more wickets and finished on great figures of (3 for 27.) Hughie Ragg and Frank Vickery (1 for 30 ) also bowled well with not much luck. Hughie was hit a bit by one of their batsmen, but came back very well (0 for 48.). One of their batsmen smashed a quick 69, before Jack Dixon changed his line and hit the ball to Sadler who took a good catch on the long off boundary. Jack bowled brilliantly and bamboozled the opposition with his leg spin, finishing with 4 for 33. There was some fine catching from Stuart Davey, Nick Klein and Jack Dixon, and Wisborough dismissed Portslade for 153 runs. A great win and fantastic performance all round well done to all. This lines up some crucial matches next Saturday with Aldwick, then Burgess Hill followed by Chichester and Pulborough. Pulborough and Chichester are above us in the league but we have a match in hand Many thanks to Peter Mattock for umpiring. Cheers James Sadler 2nd X1 Captain   Presidents Day  This year we were blessed with some lovely weather, and managed to sit outside rather than being huddled in the pavilion. The food from the 3 Crowns and the Cricks was excellent as were the many other contributions from players and guests. The day started off well with 12 bottles of Champagne donated by the President. It was a beautiful and relaxed lunch where old and young combined. Many thanks to Rachael who helped coordinate the day and get me and others organised. Thanks also to AJW for some raffle prizes and Lesley Price for selling the tickets. The Club made £300 which was a great effort. Ray Greatorex performed another Century Club draw and there were some multiple winners. Ray presented the Club with a cheque for £2,450 which is a great contribution to the club’s coffers. One particular highlight was listening to Ray call out who had won. Ray shouts ‘Bonnie Palmer’! At this point Jonny Farmer who was only just in ear shot jumps up and says ‘yes I have won’ ….only to be sent back to the bar with his tail firmly between his legs …… On the cricketing front the President brought a good team to play against the Chairman’s X1 which had a blend of youth and experience. The match was a 30 over game and some good performances from both sides made the match enjoyable and close with the Presidents Team finishing as winners. This is Neil’s final year as President and on behalf of the Club I want to thank him for many years service and help to make Wisborough Green a fantastic place to play cricket. Cheers James Sadler Head of Senior Cricket   Wisborough vs Kenya Kongonis Kenya Kongonis had their annual match vs Wisborough Green on Wednesday. Kenya Kongonis won the toss and elected to bat. It was not long before Hugo was ‘swinging his way in the wickets’ and Kongonis were 10 for 2. Kongonis then recovered with some good batting and declared on 193. Wisborough in reply scored the runs in the last over with Dan Smith getting a great hundred, and Calum Price hitting with winning runs.
