A few weeks ago we featured a player profile of one of our up and coming Colts. This week we feature another young star who has become a regular feature in our first team- at the tender age of 15. What makes it even more special when he is a home grown Wisborough lad who has come up through the ranks from under 8.

News from the under 16’s
Congratulations to our under 16’s who finished finished 3rd in the league out of 7 teams with the very strong Lindfield and Horsham coming 1st and 2nd.
All the U16’s matches are now completed and excitement is building for the U16’s Dads n’Lads match on Sunday 27th August @ 9.30am followed by the end of year awards.
Our U16’s have also been invited by Billingshurst and Barns Green to play in the Sussex Festival.

Senior Team news
With only 4 games remaining in the season for the seniors we thought we would publish the stats for the first and second team player for the season to date – see below
Not all players could take part in all matches so we used the following criteria from Playcricket stats to produce the list :
First team players : Batting – at least 5 innings . Bowling : at least 25 overs bowled
Second team players : Batting – at least 4 innings . Bowling : at least 4 wickets taken
Some great performances there – incredible number of overs bowled by Thatch.
Matches this weekend
The firsts are taking on St Andrews at home at 1pm on Saturday and the seconds are taking on Pulborough away.
Our 20/20 team are taking on Arundel in the Quarter finals of the Cup on Sunday at 1pm. Click here to see the table . The lads would very much appreciate some support so if you can make it they would very much appreciate it.

Seconds vs St Andrews

Match reports
Firsts vs West Wittering
The sun was occasionally shining and the team headed off to West Wittering, dodging the showers along the way.
Wisborough Lost the toss and a depleted West Wittering side (due to a wedding) elected to bat first.
Hugo March opened the bowling with Benjamin Steyn. Both bowling well, and it wasn’t long before Benjamin got the first 2 wickets with 2 excellent deliveries. Hugo bowled well with good control and grabbed a couple of wickets ending with 2 for 14 off his 6 overs . Ben Thatcher and Jamie Self also bowled well and pegged West Wittering back. Chris Marshall bowling his left arm spin finished off the tail and ended up with 3 wickets.
With some great fielding and good catching, a beleaguered West Wittering were all out for 128 in 30 overs. A good performances all round.
Wisborough went about the total with the formidable strike force of Dodd and Steyn, and it wasn’t long before both were hitting the ball to all parts. Dodd played an exquisite lofted cover drive, to be matched by Steyns all round hitting. Dodd was caught by mid wicket, and in came Jimma Newman. Newman played 2nd fiddle to Steyn who having been dropped a couple of times started to smash the ball to all parts of the ground. A quite brilliant 103 came off 15 overs and the total of 128 was surpassed with ease. A great exhibition of power hitting saw Wisborough to another 30 points.
With 4 matches to go, and sitting in 3rd place every game is now crucial.
Seconds vs St Andrews
A somewhat cloudy day greeted the players as they arrived at the grounds with the threat of rain ever present.
St Andrews won the toss and decided to bat.
Tom Jenkins took delivery of the new ball and went to work on getting it to swing, seam and do the damage. He was very unlucky to not to take wicket early due to dropped catch, but persevered with great energy.
Leon Kilford came up the hill having been briefed to eat plenty for breakfast and get the ball moving. He was also unlucky not to strike due to dropped catch. NSP came on to give TJ a breather and bowled their opening slogger and had another caught brilliantly behind by Jack Carter one handed at full stretch. Jack kept the gates well and proved how agile he is due to all the yoga.
Mr President JP Pleasants was brought into the attack to tempt the across the line swinging batsman into the hands of the boundary men Junior and George. JP did his best as always but again was unlucky.
The rain came in at 30 overs and early tea was taken which was as usual the highlight of the day. Having lost 45 minutes of playtime, our illustrious umpire Mr Klein got the rules and regs out and determined that the game would have to be reduced by 7 overs in each innings. The oppo went back in with 3 overs to play and we hit them as hard as we could. With more across the line slogging they managed 175 in their 33 allotted overs.
After a quick changeover Green came into bat.
Wickets fell due to good swing bowling and the wicket becoming a little unpredictable due to the wet conditions. It looked like a complete walk over for the oppo until Tarni Dixon and Frank Vickery found themselves at the crease and prepared to have a go at the change bowlers. They both did very well notching up the runs aided by big support from the line via the 1st’s who had returned in jubilant spirit following their victory at West Wittering. Alas it wasn’t enough to make up the big deficit and more wickets tumbled.
After a great effort in the field most of the day Dan ‘D’ Webber was briefed to swing at the ball and have some fun. He did exactly that – swinging very hard and missing at times !!
Wizzy ran out of overs and the oppo took away the win this time. Not the best days cricket in the scorebooks but again the team came together really well, were a little unlucky at times but were beaten fair and square.
