Another fantastic week of cricket to report on with more brilliant individual performances
England – World Cup winners
Congratulations to the England cricket team after their nailbiting and never to be forgotton victory against New Zealand in the World Cup final. Big shoutout to Jofra Archer , Sussex bowler who played a major role in the victory.

Congratulations to Chris Francis, joint skipper of the Second X1 on his marriage to beautiful Bride Emma on Saturday – celebrated in style on the Francis’s family farm in Adversane
Presidents Day – Sunday 21st July
Presidents’ Day takes place this Sunday and everyone is invited to enjoy a festival of cricket. There is an u14 game in the morning and a match between the Presidents X1 and a Chairman’s X1 in the afternoon. Lunch will be taken between 12.45 to invited guests and a bbq will be running for those who require a little sustenance. Please come down and support what is a very special day in the our cricketing calendar . Look forward to seeing you there

First X1 vs Middleton
- Middleton win the toss and elect to field on good batting strip
- Openers Tom Malcolm and Alan Law post first centuries of the season
- First wicket falls with 200 on the board
- Alan Law pushes on to end undefeated on 113
- Green set Middleton target of 261 to win
- Wickets tumble early in the Middleton innings as Green bowlers find their mark
- Green in control with Middleton at 95 for 4
- Middleton middle order batsman Hanley comes to the crease and wrestles control back in Middleton’s favour after scoring 112 not out
- Nick Klein breaks partnership but damage done as Middleton surpass total in 37th over.

Second X1 vs Broadwater
Young WGCC 2nd XI team put in outstanding performance against Broadwater
- WG win the toss and choose to field
- Gracie Attridge and Eddie Ragg open the bowling magnificently tempting the opening batsmen into playing and missing on numerous occasions
- Opening bats establish themselves in the midst of accurate bowling from our colts players
- Richard Wilson’s turning leg spin gets the first breakthrough with a catch at slip followed by another bowled
- William Dixon runs out the other opening bat on 142 with an impressive direct hit from distance
- Gracie and Josh Dixon get 1 wicket each towards the end.
- Broadwater end up with an impressive total of 288 for 5
- Charlie Philips and Tommy Colbran open the batting for WG and quickly start to hit any loose bowling to the boundary
- With the score at over 50 at 10 overs with no loss the mood is optimistic
- Charlie is bowled on 43 after attempting to clear the green with a huge shot after an impressive and destructive innings
- Tommy continues to bat exquisitely by attacking the bad balls and defending the good ones
- Skipper Tarni Dixon supports Tommy from the other end with a mixture of gross incompetence and run scoring stroke play
- Tommy sails past his half century in majestic style whilst Tarni chokes and holes out to the bowler on 48 (jug avoidance?)
- The end of the innings sees Tommy smashing the ball to all corners of the pitch whilst Richard was also stroking the ball into the gaps
- Tommy carried his broken bat with a fantastic innings of 96 not out with some high quality batting ably assisted at the other end by Richard (19 not out)
- Wisborough Green end up with credible 235 for 3 after 40 overs.
Considering the age and experience of the team this was a gargantuan performance by each and every individual on the team and it was a real pleasure to see so many of the young players performing at such a high standard despite the challenging circumstances. You can all be very proud of what you achieved.

Under 12 friendly vs Loxwood – Fri 12 July
Wisborough Green U12s keep it tight in the field to beat Loxwood in an exciting finish
- Wisborough Green won the toss and elected to bat first
- Opening partnership of Emily Reed and Georgina Ferritto start sensibly against an accurate attack
- Poor communication leaves an unfortunate run out early on
- The wicket proves to be a challenge as wickets fall
- Miles Hammond bats well for most of the innings for 12 with Tom Bonney scoring a quick fire 13
- Wisborough Green end up with 89 for 7 after 20 overs
- Loxwood start positively however communication lets then down with some early run outs
- Accurate bowling rewards Ran Dawson (2 overs 2 wickets with 1 maiden for 4 runs), Will Dixon (2 overs 3 wickets with 1 maiden for 4 runs) and Isaac Paisley (2 overs 2 wickets with 1 maiden for 5 runs)
- Loxwood end up with 87 all out after 17 overs
A very close finish where the character of the WGCC U12 team shines through to win at the end by bowling the opposition out

Under 12 vs Three Bridges – Sat 13 July
WGCC U12s lose narrowly to an outstanding fielding display from Three Bridges
- Three Bridges win the toss and decide to bat first
- Wisborough Green opening bowlers restrict runs with good line and length
- Wickets fall as WG continue the pressure with accurate bowling, good catching and sharp fielding
- Three Bridges end up with 75 for 8 after 20
- Wisborough runs are restricted by impressive line and length bowling
- Pressure shows with wickets falling by trying to force the run rate
- Isaac Paisley bats well for 23 whilst others fall around him and is run out with a direct hit
- At the finish WG end up with 55 all out after 19 overs
This was a good performance against a Three Bridges team that bowled exceptionally well (no extras from wides or no balls)
